Pat Lyons

BOONE, Iowa—Patrick William Lyons was born Feb. 2, 1952 to Virgil and Charlotte (Parks) Lyons of rural Boone, Iowa. He graduated from Boone High School in 1970 and worked for Sandler Built Homes in Boone until enlisting in the Air Force in 1972. During his four years in the Air Force as a Radar Technician he was stationed at Baudette Air Force Station in Minnesota and Tempelhof Central Airport in West Berlin, Germany.

Pat worked for Sunstrand in Ames until 1981 when he enrolled in Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa, earning an AA degree in Electrical Technology. Pat worked for Brinks Electric in Milford, Iowa, and then 31 years for Milford Electric, retiring in 2018.  He earned his Master Electrician certification and trained many younger electricians while doing electrical work for businesses and homes in the Okoboji area.

During his 42 years living in the Iowa Lakes region, he maintained the cabin, boat, and yard of family-owned property on Lake Minnewashta. In 2004–2005 he supervised the building of his own house on the property and did much of the finishing work himself. Pat enjoyed traveling to see the fall colors, listening to classic rock, giving boat rides to friends, and taking meticulous care of his house, tools, and vehicles.

After a recent diagnosis of dementia and rapid physical decline, Pat passed away on April 8, 2024 at Hearthstone Memory Care of Eastern Star in Boone.

He is survived by his sister Joyce (Randy) Patterson of Boone, nieces Sheri, Charlene, Janelle, and Marcy and nephews Brad and Steve and their children, and sister-in-law Sondra Lyons of Boone. Also missing his friendship are Bryce and Lita Butler of Milford and Raymond and Brenda Carlson of Stratford. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Kathy in 1974, and brother Don in 2021.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, 1103 South Montana, Boone, with Military Honors by the Boone Veterans Council.  Following the graveside service, a time of sharing and refreshments will be held in the Fitzgerald Hall at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, Boone.
