Peggy Thomas

BOONE, Iowa—Peggy Ann Thomas, 64, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, of cancer at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Peggy was born on February 16, 1960, to Bud and Betty Pepper of rural Ames. She lived a typical farm-kid life and was an outdoor kid. She was a good student at Gilbert Schools and enjoyed playing softball and basketball.

On April 22, 1979, she married Bruce Thomas, from this marriage, a son, Jestin was born. Four years later, a daughter, Lacey followed. Peggy enjoyed following Jestin’s interests, watching him sing in the auditorium and play baseball from the bleachers. She also enjoyed caring for Lacey, severely handicapped and did an excellent job.

Peggy enjoyed helping teach youth group, infants to five years old in the nursery, Mom’s Day Out, listening to the children’s Bible verses in Awanas, helping teach Sunday School, and fellowship in the Ladies Circle. For 15 years, Peg and Bruce served Church Soup Suppers together. Her real ministry was intercessory prayer.

Peggy enjoyed living in Boone, her dear friends and was well known for walking the paths of Boone with Lacey. She got to know many residents of Westhaven Community, and she lived out her faith in Christ with all of those that she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Conn Pepper; and father-in-law, Stephen Thomas.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Bruce Thomas; son, Jestin (Tracy) Thomas; daughter, Lacey Thomas; her so-loved grandchildren: Bruce Thomas (8), Ainsley Thomas (8), Jory Thomas (7), and Elaina Thomas (4); siblings: Pam (Darrell Lingelbach) Denning, Mark Pepper, Matt (Jolene) Pepper, Patti (Kevin) Cook, Jeff Pepper, and Paula (Jeff) Parris; many, many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family. Peggy will be greatly cherished forever by her family and friends.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, IA. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:00 p.m. at Heartland Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Abell officiating. Interment at Linwood Park Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
