Sharon Johnson

BOONE, Iowa—Sharon Ann Johnson, age 87, of Boone, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Mineral Ridge Cemetery.  A reception and time of fellowship will follow at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.

Born on April 28, 1936 in Osage, Iowa, Sharon was the daughter of Edward and Marian (Mark) Fink.  She graduated as Valedictorian of her class of 6 in 1954.  Sharon was crowned Miss Orchard of the North Iowa.  She was united in marriage to Arlynn Mendell in 1954.  The couple moved to Boone in 1965 and later divorced.  Sharon worked as a secretary at Standard Oil, where she met Richard “Dick” Johnson.  She and Dick were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua in 1991.

Growing up on the farm, Sharon had a love of horses, cats, and dogs.  She enjoyed flowers, plants, and bird watching.  In her spare time, Sharon could be found reading, especially Amish books.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Dick; her children: Kimberly Barrett-Clear Lake, Steve (Tracy) Mendell-Ogallala, NE, Julie (Mike) Burge-Boone, and Kevin (Nancy Tauber) Mendell-Boone; two stepchildren: Randy (Kara Kruse) Johnson-Boone and Larry Johnson-Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcia Mullen of Osage; a brother-in-law, Tom (Donna) Johnson of Boone; a sister-in-law, Mary Johnson of Boone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Karen Fox; and a stepson, Kenny Johnson.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone.  Online condolences may be left for Sharon’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
