Richard Gifford

PILOT MOUND, Iowa—Richard “Rick” A. Gifford, 66, of Pilot Mound and formerly of Boone, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Rick was born in Charles City, Iowa, on April 21, 1957, the son of Wayne and Kay (Townsend)
Gifford. Rick attended and graduated from Boone High School in 1976.

Rick was united in marriage to Carla Knight in 1977. To this union two sons were born, Wayne
“Wally” and Jerry “Beaver”.

Rick enjoyed lots of activities in life: fishing, gambling, four-wheeler riding, racing, watching
his sons and grandson race and attending his grandkids sporting events. He loved spoiling his
blue heeler, Daisy Mae, and enjoyed cooking and baking for his family and friends.

Rick had several jobs over the years, Woodward State Hospital, Boone Landfill, and carpet and
vinyl laying with his best friend, Terry Garvey. He was a custodian for Iowa State University, for
18 years until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Kay; in-laws, Jerry and Mary Knight;
brother-in-law, Gary Casady; and best friend, Terry Garvey.

Rick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carla Gifford of Pilot Mound; two sons, Wayne
(Samantha) Gifford and Jerry (Jess) Gifford all of Boone; five grandchildren, Braden and
Braxton of Boone, Zack and Emily of North Carolina, and Macon of Boone; sister, Dixie Casady
of Boone; brother, Craig Gifford of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Jeff (Jamie) Knight of Boone;
and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at
