Scott Fank

BOONE, Iowa—Our precious, beloved son Scott, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 26, 2024 at 23 years old. Scott was born to Michael Scott and DeAnna Lynn (Cassabaum) Fank on July 7, 2000 (almost en route) at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. He’s the second oldest of three loving siblings; Heidi Nichole, HolliAnna Marie, and Luke Michael. He was homeschooled through high school at L.P.J. Academy and graduated in May 2018. He then attended DMACC in Boone for one year. He completed his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University, excelling in his coursework and graduating Summa cum Laude in May 2023. While attending ISU, he interned at PowerFilm Solar in Ames and very much enjoyed learning under Brad Scandrett. In February of 2023, Scott traveled to Asan, South Korea where he completed two semesters of a foreign exchange program. He poured his energy into his language classes, becoming fluent in reading Korean and competent in speaking it. In addition to his Korean language classes, over the course of two semesters he was assigned thirteen Korean language partners who he met with weekly to help them learn English and became a good friend to many of them. Near the end of his stay in Asan, he was chosen for a two-week program where he assisted in teaching English to grade-school children.

Scott’s brief life on earth was characterized by a zeal for discovering and hands-on learning. He never wanted to learn for the sake of learning, he always wanted to master whatever he was interested in. He loved being creative; having a wide-range of interests including piano, guitar, drums, ukulele, electronics, explosives, 3D printing, auto mechanics, photography, cooking, and baking. He loved being active in sports and seemed to excel in whatever he set his mind to conquer; such as wake boarding, wake skating, snowboarding, volleyball, biking (including a unicycle), and juggling. Scott’s passionate, polite, kind, servant heart produced a love for mentoring and encouraging his siblings and everyone in his life.

Scott is survived by his parents Michael and DeAnna Fank of Boone; and his three siblings, Heidi (Cavin) Leeds, HolliAnna Fank, and Luke Fank all also of Boone. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; Reynold and Jean Fank and Gerry and Linda Cassabaum.

The Lord Jesus captured Scott’s heart at an early age and he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Scott was baptized at Hidden Acres Christian Camp in June of 2007. His God-given competitive nature made Bible verse memorization fun and challenging at AWANA, and he received the Timothy Award.

On the day of Scott’s homegoing, he had been focusing on the following promise from Jesus: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has passed from death into life,” John 5:24. We can rest assured that Scott is free from pain, suffering, and sin, resting in the love of our Savior and those of us who have put our trust in Him will be together for eternity.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Countryside Bible Chapel, 3998 Fenton Ave., Stratford, IA 50249.  A memorial service will be 1:00 P.M.  Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Countryside Bible Chapel.  The memorial service will be livestreamed through Zoom and this obituary will be updated with the link once it has been established.
