Slight Recognized By Council and City Staff for Years of Service

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Mayor John Slight is concluding 20 years as Boone’s Mayor. Slight did not seek re-election this year, saying it’s time for others to handle the business of the city. Several department heads congratulated the Mayor and former City Employees returned to congratulated the outgoing Mayor. Former City Administrator Luke Nelson, now Administrator in Norwalk, talked about the early challenges the city faced, implementing a hiring freeze, reducing staff, returning the city’s general fund to the black. He also noted the massive infrastructure project to keep storm water out of sewer lines along Honey Creek. Slight said the success of projects and programs in Boone are driven by the Department Heads and City Staff with the support of the Council.
