Formal Ribbon Cutting Held for Pickleball Courts

Posted on 31 July 2023 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—It’s a sport that continues to attract a number of participants of all ages and now a formal ribbon cutting ceremony has been held for half a dozen pickleball courts, which have replaced to tennis courts at Memorial Park. The tennis courts had additional lines painted on them for pickleball, but began seeing less tennis once additional courts were constructed at the Boone Middle School. Players, led by Larry Kelley brought a proposal to the Park Board about turning the site into actual pickle ball courts and agreed to raise the money for the project. It was not the first time the Park Board had received a request to make pickle ball courts available, but it was the first time funds were raised for the project.

After two-years, the courts were completed earlier this summer and have seen quite a bit of traffic. There are still a few things in to works, a wind screen for the fencing and possibly some additional benches. The Park Board is also taking a look at dealing with some of the parking issues that have developed.
