Doyle Norman Cox was born on May 7, 1938 in Boone, the son of Woodrow and Alice (Staley) Cox. He attended Boone Public Schools. Doyle served in the Iowa National Guard.

Doyle and his brother Chuck spent weekends watching NASCAR and in their younger years, they raced stock cars at the Boone Speedway and Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City.

When Doyle wasn’t tinkering on cars, he enjoyed watching WWE and Dallas; One of the most memorable trips was to South Fork Ranch with his family. There was a time when Doyle went go kart racing with grandkids, Grandpa Doyle tried to contain his emotions but his face could not hide the excitement and he shared a big smile. Doyle loved being a grandpa.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; children, Chris (Julie) Cox and Wanda Cox, all of Boone; grandchildren, Tony (Kerry) Cox, Bri (Nathan) Shafer, Joshua (Jordanna) Stover and Spencer (Emily) Stover; great-grandchildren, Tate, Paisley and Teague Shafer, Quinn and Cole Cox, Jensen and Georgia Stover and Elsie and Sawyer Stover; sisters, Lorraine (Darwin) Madden, Linda Jones, Bev (Jeff) Houston and Vickie (Randy) Treadway; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
