Great Pathfinder Wind Farm Project Construction Beginning

Posted on 11 May 2022 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Engineer’s office has released the most recent information about the construction of APEX Clean Energy’s Great Pathfinder Windfarm. County Engineer Scott Kruse released this information Wednesday:

IEA constructors will be constructing a wind farm in northern Boone County for Apex Clean Energy. There will be a heavy amount of construction traffic and road closures on and off during construction. Please use caution when traveling in the area. The attached map outlines the area where construction will be occurring. Boone County Secondary Roads will be monitoring construction during the project to ensure the roads are taken care of. Some roads will be getting new aggregate placed and other roads will be getting a process called cement stabilization to harden the roads for the heavy loads the contractor anticipates they will have to have on them to build the turbines. Driveways and intersections will need to be temporarily adjusted for turning the large loads around corners please use the roads as you normally would and avoid these widened areas. There may be other areas of the county with heavier than usual traffic as well as material is being sourced from local sources and transported to the outlined area. This wind farm is in Boone County and Hamilton County and the contractor is starting in Hamilton County and working south. Additional updates will be posted as construction occurs.
