Helen Jacobson

BOONE, Iowa—Helen Elizabeth (Byrnes) Jacobson, age 81 of Ridgeport, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Helen was born in Des Moines on April 29, 1940, the daughter of John and Marguerite (Jansen) Byrnes. She was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy.

Helen was united in marriage with Marvin Jacobson on April 7, 1973 in Des Moines. In earlier years, Helen enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with Marvin and playing in a Bridge Club.

Helen was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Boone YMCA. She enjoyed cross stitching, water aerobics, playing cards and cooking (enough to feed an army). Helen offered advice to her loved ones and was known as “The Great One”.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin in 2012; siblings, John “Jack” (LaVonne) Byrnes, Edward (Phyllis) Byrnes and James (Shirley) Byrnes; and brother-in-law, James Hilt.

She is survived by her son, Andrew John “AJ” Jacobson of San Diego, CA; daughter, Ramona “Mona” Kay (Perry) Moore of Boone; siblings, Thomas (Jean) Byrnes, Mary Hilt, Gertrude Stuempfig, Carline Hurst, Frances Jahani, Angela (Lee) Gomez, Paul (Betty) Byrnes and William (Kathleen) Byrnes; niece, Mary “Molly” Byrnes and her son, Jeff Byrnes (Helen’s godson); along with numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport. A Celebration of Helen’s Life to follow at her home, 1336 120th Street, Boone, IA, 50036. Please RSVP to 515-230-5005.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Helen’s Family for later designation.
