Troy was born June 14,1966, in Boone, Iowa, to Max and Judith (Freel) Brower. In his younger years Troy excelled in high school baseball as a pitcher and joined swing choir, so he could dance with the pretty girls. He started bowling at age 13 and bowled his first 300 game by 16. He bowled many 300 games in his lifetime. He was the youngest bowler in the state of Iowa to be inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame.

He went on to DMACC in Boone and graduated Valedictorian. Troy then went to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln on a full ride bowling scholarship. He later transferred to Iowa State University and graduated with a BA in Finance. He moved to Colorado and worked for Brunswick Bowling.

Troy then came back to his hometown for a job with Subway Corporation. He was also a volunteer member for the Boone Noon Kiwanis, worked on the Pufferbilly Days Committee and served as Chairman for a year. At the Subway Corporation, he worked his way up to Area Supervisor. This allowed him the opportunity to purchase Tiger Bowl in Madrid, IA. His lifelong dream.

He married Michelle O’Brien on June 27, 1998 in Boone on the hottest day of the year and they made their home in Madrid. They welcomed their Pride and Joy, Hallie Brower in November of 2002. Their miracle baby.

Troy was a well respected member of the Madrid Community. He was a supporter of the High Trestle Trail, the Madrid Booster Club, the VFW, and Board Member of the Boone County Bowling Association.

Troy was an avid Iowa State and Minnesota Vikings fan, but wondered many times…why?

Troy has made many lifelong friends in the bowling community, many are like family. He won numerous awards over the years in many state and national bowling tournaments. He wanted kids to start young and wanted everyone to bowl forever. He said it was one sport you could do your whole life.

Troy’s giving nature was a quality that many people benefited from. He would give you the shirt off his back, even if it came from Goodwill. The only one he would not give away, was the one that said “With a body like this, who needs hair?”, gifted by his loving sister. He loved a good laugh!

Troy had a lifelong struggle with alcohol, that he worked every day of his life to overcome.

We are grateful for his courage with his battle.

One of Troy’s favorite things in life was when the groups from Woodward State Hospital and Imagine from Boone would come to bowl. He said they had the secret to life, be happy where you are.

Troy is survived by his parents, Max and Judy Brower of Boone. His wife, Michelle and daughter, Hallie of Madrid. His sister, Coke Brower, his Fabulous niece, Lucy and his Cool nephew, Max of Ankeny. His Aunt Leann Freel of Boone, his uncle Larry Freel of Paton, and many members of the O’Brien family. He is also survived by many extended family, outlaws included.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lucille and Emmett Freel, his paternal grandmother, Betty Brower. His uncle, Gary Freel, and his father-in-law, Mike O’Brien. His favorite dog, Gracie.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Masks will be required at all services.
