Charlotte Elsberry

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 85 year old Charlotte Ann Virginia Elsberry of Story City, Iowa and formerly of Boone, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the Stratford Care Center in Stratford, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, IA.

Charlotte was born January 27, 1936, in Madrid, Iowa, the daughter of Francis “Bud” and Elsie (Earl) Knight. She was united in marriage to Darold Elsberry.

Charlotte was a foster grandparent, for 18 years, and was known to many as “Grandma Charlotte” at Franklin Elementary in Boone. She also volunteered at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad and at the visitor information train in south Boone. Charlotte also worked for RSVP in Boone, volunteered at the Boone Police Department as a dispatcher and helping her community anyway she could.

She loved to play bingo with her daughter, Elsie, as well as going out looking at the deer with her friends and family. Charlotte most of all enjoyed spending time with her family, especially all her great grandchildren.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Elsie Holmes of Boone; half-brother, Rudy Knight of Idaho; granddaughters, Cheryl Holmes of Boone, Elizabeth (Nick) Jones of Jewell, Iowa, Joanna (Damien) Mapp of Ames, Amy (Coco) Varrientes of Oklahoma, Marybeth (Steven) Johnson of Missouri and Christy Elsberry of Pennsylvania; grandson, Todd (Kim) Elsberry of New York; 23 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francis “Bud” Knight; mother, Elsie Vancanon; husband, Darold Elsberry; and son, Ronald “Ronnie” Elsberry.
