BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 85 year old Bernadine Goetzman, of Ames, Iowa and formerly of Boone, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery, north of Boone.

Bernadine Ann (Schmidt) Goetzman was born on September 20, 1935, the daughter of Earl and Gladys (Peterson) Schmidt in Ogden, IA. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1953.

Bernadine was united in marriage with Richard Goetzman on December 5, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church. From this union, were two daughters, Cindy and Carol.

Bernadine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Bernadine and Richard went Polka dancing during their years together, loved going on car rides for ice cream or to the Old Country Buffet and traveling. Bernadine volunteered folding napkins at the Boone Scenic Valley Railroad and a nursing home in town.

Bernadine was a crafty lady; she enjoyed sewing and made unique sequin Christmas ornaments. She loved doing puzzles and playing Skip-Bo. She was enthusiastic to do yard work. Bernadine had a vegetable garden with a fruitful strawberry patch and enjoyed watching the birds.

Bernadine had been living at Green Hills, where she made many friends and loved her community. She would wave to people walking by her door. The community loved her as well, she had a great sense of humor and was a friendly face each time they passed by her room.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Earl and Esther Goetzman; husband, Richard in 2003; and brother, Robert Schmidt. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Barrett and Carol Ahrens, both of Boone; grandchildren, Cory (Nicki) Dawkins, Marc (Kandi) Riker, Stephanie Riker, Malarie (Colton) Robinson, Andrew (Stephanie) Ahrens, Elise (Matt) Bream, and Sean Ahrens; siblings, Pauline Davis of West Des Moines, Lois (Bob) Larew of Davenport, Verne (Mary Ellen) Schmidt of Glen Ellyn, IL, Larry (Jackie) Schmidt of Walker, IA and Gary (Mabel) Schmidt of Hacienda Heights, CA; as well as many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
