Douglass (Pete) Keigley

BELLA VISTA, Arkansas—Funeral arrangements have been set for 86 year old Douglass (Pete) Keigley of Bella Vista, Arkansas, born July 20, 1934, passed away June 23, 2021.

Pete graduated from Boone High School in 1952 and married Janet Chadwick on November 1, 1953 in Boone, IA. They were married for 56 years until her passing in 2009. They raised two daughters, Pam and Diane, while living in Fort Dodge, Iowa for 20 years. His working career included plumbing and heating contracting and insurance brokerage.

His positivity and zeal for life was contagious. He rarely undertook any activity in which he didn’t excel and mentored others, from ski patrol instructor to bowling and golf. In his youth he raced motorcycles, played guitar and sang in the Country Squires Band. He loved to travel and see the world.

He built three houses for his family over the years and was a master craftsman. He and his wife, Jan, retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 2000. During his retirement he designed and built many woodworking treasures for family and friends. His humor was legendary. He lived passionately and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was always thought of as young no matter what his age.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jan and his mother and father, Dorothy Thulin and John Keigley.

Survivors include his daughter Pamela Keigley (Doug) of Bend, Oregon; his daughter Diane Keigley-Keith (Alec) of Moyie Springs, Idaho; his four grandchildren: Marcus Mitchell (Ashley) of Bend, Oregon; Richard Mitchell (Marivy) of Vail, Colorado; Alastair Keith of Taos, New Mexico; Peter Mitchell of Fort Collins, Colorado; his sister Deborah Kinnard (Russ) of Elk Grove, Illinois and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his longtime friend and companion, Pat Erwin of Bella Vista, Arkansas.

A graveside memorial will be held at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa, on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter.

The Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone is handling the local arrangements.
