COVID-19 cases fall, hospitalizations rise

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 804 new cases of COVID-19, a decrease from the 992 positive coronavirus tests reported 24 hours earlier.  Iowa has had over 86,000 cases of COVID-19 and 1,315 Iowans have died from coronavirus:  eight on Saturday, including someone from Polk County, and four in Sunday’s update.  Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 200 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 15,926; 33 this weekend in Story for 3,446; 31 in Dallas for 2,792; 19 in Webster for 1,269 there; five in Hamilton for 327; two in Greene for 101; and half a dozen in Boone County for 509 overall.  Statewide, there are 343 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, up nine from Saturday, but greater than 65,000 Iowans have recovered, 330 in Boone County alone.  For the one in four Iowans who have been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has now topped 11%.
