“FINALLY” Ogden Softball wins first State Team Title in School History

Posted on 31 July 2020 by KWBG

Sometimes teams get hot at the right time of the season, sometimes they just play well all year and sometimes it’s just your time to win for the first time. A school known for individual titles in wrestling, track, cross country as well as other teams who got to the door but never knocked it down……..well that all changed Friday Night in Fort Dodge Iowa as the #3 Ogden Softball team knocked out undefeated and #1 North Linn 6-1 to win the school’s first ever team title. Ogden started fast and early against a team who had allowed 1 run the entire state tournament. In the 2nd inning Faith Mohr stepped up with runners on and one out……………..

The Bulldogs weren’t done and got a little help from North Linn’s defense

The lead was 3-0 at the time, but Denali Loecker wanted more when she stepped up with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position

Ogden would hang onto that 4-0 lead until the top of the 4th inning when Denali Loecker stepped up with one out, nobody on and wasted no time reminding us what we’ll miss next season

The Bulldogs would give one back in the bottom of the 5th inning to make it 5-1 after 5 complete, but they’d get it right back in the 6th inning when Lauren Kennedy returned to the plate

Ogden would head to the bottom of the 7th inning leading 6-1. Loecker would get a strikeout and groundout by the first two hitters, but a base hit and a throwing error gave North Linn life and on a 2-2 pitch a ground ball would end up making history

The Bulldogs would put four on the All Tournament Team. Reagan Church, Gabby Ross, Lauren Kennedy and Captain of the team: Denali Loecker. The Bulldogs finish the season 22-3 and more importantly……….Champions of Class 2A
