Central Iowa Farm Land Leasing Meetings Begin in Boone Monday

Posted on 28 July 2020 by KWBG

ALTOONA, Iowa—Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is conducting eight in-person farmland leasing meetings across seven different sites in Central Iowa this August.

With the lower 2020 crop prices and uncertainty of 2021 crop revenue outlook, emphasis will be placed on improving communications between landowners and tenant operators. Each meeting will last approximately two hours and be facilitated by Steve Johnson, farm and agriculture business management specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.

Meeting sites include:

  • Boone – Aug. 3 at 9 a.m., Boone County Fairgrounds, Community Building, 1601 Industrial Park Rd.
  • Grinnell – Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Poweshiek County Fairgrounds, Exhibit Hall, 425 East St. S.
  • Nevada – Aug. 7 at 9 a.m., Christy 4-H Hall, 220 H. Ave.
  • Des Moines – Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Grand View University, 2811 East 14th St., Speed Lyceum Student Center
  • Winterset – Aug. 20 at 9 a.m., Madison County Fairgrounds – Jackson Bldg., 1204 W. Summit St.
  • Knoxville – Aug. 21 at 9 a.m., Marion County Extension Office, 210 N. Iowa St.
  • Marshalltown – Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., Central Iowa Fairgrounds, Activity Building, 1308 E. Olive St.

Pre-registration is required at least two days before the meeting and a $20 per individual or $30 per couple fee will be collected. Participants will receive a 100-page Farmland Leasing Arrangements booklet and meeting handouts designed to assist landowners, tenants, and other agri-business professionals with issues related to farmland ownership, management, and leasing arrangements.

No walk-ins or late registrations allowed. We are prioritizing the health and safety of Iowans and are following the most current federal, state, local, and university COVID-19 guidelines. Participants are strongly encouraged to wear a cloth face covering when in the presence of others and unable to maintain a six-foot physical distance.

To pre-register, call or e-mail the local County Extension Office host site. In Boone County, contact Alexis Hooper at 515-432-3882 or email ahooper@iastate.edu.  Procedures for paying your registration fee can be discussed.
