Herman Starter, Herman Coffee Cake and Easter Poke Cake

HERMAN STARTER
2 cups flour
2 cups warm water
1/4 cup sugar
1 env dry yeast
Mix flour, water, sugar and yeast together in plastic or glass container. Let stand overnight in a warm place with a lid, but DO NOT OCVER TIGHTLY. Refigerate coverd, stirring each day. On the fifth day, feed with 1 cup flour, 1 cup milk and 1/2 cup sugar. The starter also should be fed the same ingredients onthe tenth day, after taking out the 2 cups to be used in baking. On the tenth day, you can bake.
Measure out 1 cup of Herman to give to a friend. This will leave 2 cups for use in a recipe and another cup to contineu to feed for anouther recipe in then more days. The tenth day and the first day are the same.
If Herman isn’t used on the tenth day, add 1 teaspon sugar and repeat every ten day until you do use some.

HERMAN COFFEE CAKE
2 cups Herman
2 cups sifed flour
1/2 tsp solda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger (opt)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup oil
1 cup nuts or raisins
Combine the above and pour into a greased 9×13.
For Streusel topping, combine 1/4 cup melted butter, 1 cup brown sugar and 1 tbsp cinnamon to put over batter. Allow to stand at room temperature for 1 hour before baking. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. For glaze, melt together 1/2 cup margarine, 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup milk. Pour over baked cake

EASTER POKE CAKE RECIPE
1 French vanilla cake mix
3 eggs
1 c. water
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1 3.4 oz. box of instant vanilla or French vanilla pudding
3 c. milk
1 carton frozen whipped topping
Food coloring
In a large bowl combine cake mix, eggs, water and vegetable oi. Divide the batter into 3 bowls. Color each bowl with food coloring (pink, purple, green). Place each color of batter into a ziplock bag and cut the end off. Squeeze batter into a greased 9×13 pan rotating colors as you move around the pan to create a marbleized look. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes, or until the center comes out clean with a toothpick. Poke holes with the back of a wooden spoon about every 1 – 1 1/2 “. In a separate bowl, beat the milk and instant pudding together for about 5 minutes until the pudding starts to set. Pour pudding mixture over the cake and allow it to soak into the holes. Cover evenly with whipped topping and top with your favorite Easter sprinkles.
