On Friday evening, history buffs gathered at Mamie’s Birthplace in Boone to celebrate the century mark for the couple.  There were yard games, classic cars, Dixie Band music, and of course, food!

Boone County is taking part in the Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon. Volunteers are reading 15 minutes at a time, and expect to read through the entire Bible by sometime on July 3.

2016 Pufferbilly Logo

The Pufferbilly Days™ Steering Committee unveiled the 2016 Pufferbilly Days™ logo and theme late last week. The theme “Forty Years in Gear” expresses the 40th year celebrating Boone’s railroad heritage with vibrant colors and an engine with gear elements tied throughout. Pufferbilly Days™ will be September 8-11, 2016.

Last weekend was perfect weather for junkin’.  Some vendors set up on the corner of 8th and Story but there were twenty plus vendors throughout Central Iowa that participated.

Bridge coming down

Bridge coming down

As Boone County Secondary Roads Department removed the fallen piece of the Wagon Wheel bridge,  they found that the western pier was twisted from the ice impact earlier this year. Thus, that was also removed.

Boone Sophomore Wins Patriotic Art Scholarship

VFW Post 817 & Auxiliary are happy to announce that Boone High School Sophomore, Jackson Smith, won $100 for 1st Place at the local level and $350 for 2nd Place at the State of Iowa, Young American Creative Patriotic Art Scholarship competition. Jackson is the son of Jason and Christie Smith of Boone.
