Trepa Named Boone Superintendent

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone School District today released the name of the new Superintendent for the Boone Community School District:

The Boone Community School Board is excited to announce that Julie Trepa has verbally accepted the offer to
serve as the next district superintendent. Based on feedback from various stakeholders involved in the formal
interview process the board was confident she was the best person to lead the district forward. Julie’s strengths
as a proven instructional leader with a strong special education background set her apart. Her hire will become
official after the board approves her contract at the next school board meeting Monday evening, January 27,
2020.

The board appreciated the feedback they received from everyone involved in the hiring process and is excited about what Julie will bring to the district and community. Board President Brian Mehlhaus said, “The Board is greatly looking forward to Julie joining our school community. Her unique experiences and skill sets will work very well to help all students, teachers, and staff expect the best, achieve success. We hope everyone will take time to get to know Julie and her husband Tim, and welcome them to our district.”

Julie currently serves as a Shared Superintendent for the West Monona and West Harrison School Districts. She has served in this capacity for the last three years where she has improved the financial stability of the districts. Her prior experience includes serving the Bettendorf School District as an elementary principal for 15 years. She also has experience as an associate middle school principal, special education teacher and math teacher. She served on the Iowa Department of Education Social-Emotional Advisory Council and has recently worked with community agencies and the Area Education Agency (AEA) to provide mental health services to students at no cost. She was named Iowa Elementary Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa, and she was
also named a National Distinguished Principal.

Mrs. Trepa has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Montana in Elementary Education. Her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration was earned in 1999 from the University of Iowa. She also earned her Specialist Degree with Superintendent licensure also from the University of Iowa. She is currently participating in the 2021 West Cohort AASA National Superintendent Certification Program.

Julie was excited to accept the position saying, “I am pleased to be joining the Boone family. It is an honor to have the opportunity to lead a district that is dedicated to the youth of the community by working together to ensure ALL students achieve at high levels.”

Julie is married to her husband, Tim Trepa. He currently serves as the Director of Veteran’s Affairs for Monona County. Together they have two children. In her free time Julie enjoys spending time with family, watching sports and theatrical performances, and reading nonfiction literature.

Julie will transition into the role between now and officially starting her contract on July 1, 2020.
