BOONE, Iowa—Murvin A. “Murv” Jackson, 93, of Boone, passed away Thursday morning, June 12, 2025, at his home, peacefully in the loving care of his son Rick and his wife Vickie Jackson. Cremation has taken place.

He was born on December 3, 1931 in Thayer, Iowa, the son of James and Macil (Karns) Jackson. His mother Macil later married Wayne Hedlund of Indianola in 1939, where Murvin began his life on the farm, as a farm boy.

Murvin attended schools in Ogden, Madrid, and Sheldahl, and graduated from Sheldahl High School on May 31, 1951. On February 18, 1952, Murvin joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict.

Murvin was united in marriage to the love of his life, Wanda L. Westberg of Moingona on October 8, 1954, and to this union four children were born, Ricky, Randy, Jodie, and Rodney. Wanda passed away May 8, 1991.

Murvin married Darlene “Dolly” Millward on August 21, 1992, and she passed away on July 4, 2011.

Murvin worked various jobs with John Deere in Des Moines, and Solar Aircraft Company of San Diego. While at the Solar Aircraft Company, he learned the skills of an industrial x-ray technician, which took him to California. In 1962, he began working with Aerojet-General X-Raying Rockets and Missiles for several years, and then on to Lockheed/Martin Missiles and Space Company, from which he retired in 1984. He came home to Boone and bought the Hideaway Lounge, to which it remained in the family for over twenty-six years.

Murvin was a life member of the VFW Boone, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed showing cars and boating. Murvin also enjoyed visiting and entertaining with family and friends. He was known for his ability to crack a joke. Murvin had a photographic memory, and never forgot anything. He was a master mechanic, and was able to fix anything.

Murvin and his son Rick went on the Boone County Freedom Flight in 2017. Murvin and Rick were the only father and son veteran team, and neither one needed a wheelchair during the trip, despite Murv’s 22” legs, as he often reminded us, LOL. They were honored to be able to place the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
