The Madrid baseball team hosted Van Meter Thursday, June 5, in a West Central Conference doubleheader.
The Tigers dropped both games, falling, 11-1, in the opener and 11-3 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Van Meter 11, Madrid 1
Mason Moorman led the Tigers with two hits, while Easton Halverson added a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Kole Deppe chipped in with a hit and scored Madrid’s lone run.
Emerson Bridgewater took the loss on the mound but struck out seven Van Meter batters.
Game 2: Van Meter 11, Madrid 3
Bridgewater stayed hot at the plate with two hits and a run scored.
Kolbie Owens had a productive outing, collecting a hit, scoring once, driving in two runs, and stealing two bases.
Preston Wicker, Halverson, and McCoy Cooley each added a hit, while Connor Petticord drove in a run.
Deppe took the loss in the second game, recording one strikeout.
The sweep drops Madrid to 3-4 on the season, while Van Meter improves to 9-3.
The Tigers will host Estherville Lincoln Central (5-6) in a tournament matchup on Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m.
Madrid softball loses to No. 1 Van Meter
The Madrid softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to No. 1 Van Meter Thursday, June 5, in Madrid in West Central Conference play.
Van Meter won game 1, 10-0, and also won game 2, 8-0
Van Meter improves to 9-1 on the season, and Madrid falls to 1-7.
The Tigers will host Colfax-Mingo in a tournament at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Madrid.
