The Boone boys’ tennis team punched its ticket to the state team tournament for the ninth consecutive year on Wednesday, May 21.
The Toreadors secured a 5-2 victory over Shenandoah in the substate 2 finals at Shenandoah.
No. 1 Devin Silbaugh claimed a straight-set victory (6-2, 7-5) over Shenandoah’s Lucas Sun.
No. 4 Braxtan Sproule delivered a 6-3, 7-5 win against Ryan Lawrence, and No. 5 Calvin Jordan and No. 6 Patrick Houser both rallied to win tight matches.
Jordan came back from a set down to defeat Drew Morelock 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4), while Houser edged Levi Rystrom, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5)
In doubles, Silbaugh teamed up with Tyler Lindahl to win, 6-3, 6-2 against Shenandoah’s Luke Daoust and Lawerence.

With the win, Boone advances to the state tournament once again.
The Class 1A team tennis tournament will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3 and 4, at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center in Iowa City.
