The No. 1 tennis player in Class 1A could not be stopped, but the Boone boys’ tennis team beat North Polk, 9-2, Tuesday, May 8, at McHose Park.
North Polk’s Easton Moon won his singles match against Devin Silbaugh, 6-0, 6-1, and Moon and Eli Pederson won their doubles match against Silbaugh and Tyler Lindahl, 6-2, 6-1.
However, the Toreadors won the remaining matches to secure the meet victory over the Comets.
In singles, 4 individuals won in straight sets.
No. 2 Lindahl won, 6-2, 6-2 and No. 3 Wes Van Pelt won 6-0, 6-2.
No. 4 Braxtan Sproule won 6-0, 6-0, and No. 5 Calvin Jordan won 6-2, 6-3.
No. 6 Patrick Houser went to 3rd set tiebreaker, but he won 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).
In doubles, No. 2 Sproule and Houser won in 3rd set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (12-10),
Three doubles teams won in straight sets.
No. 3 Van Pelt and Jordan won 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) and No. 4 Brandon Holm and Strummer Grout won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, as did No. 5 Sam Chesnut and Kyan Lehman, 6-4, 6-1.
Boone improves its record to 9-2.
The Toreadors will face North Polk again on Friday, May 9, as the Comets host Boone, Indianola and Southeast Polk at an invitational beginning at 12:30 p.m.
