Supervisors Sign-off on Hunger and Homeless Proclamation

Posted on 14 November 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Board of Supervisors presented members of the Boone County Homeless Prevention Board & Hunger Collaborative with a proclamation as part of the National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, November 10-18, 2018.

The Boone County Homeless Prevention Board & Hunger Collaborative includes the partnering agencies of IMPACT Community Action, YSS of Boone County, The Salvation Army, ACCESS, Emergency Residence Project, and others.  All of these partners assist in the housing and support of those who struggle with food insecurity as well as safe and stable housing.

According to the Iowa Council on Homelessness, in 2017 12,932 people in Iowa experienced homelessness and had direct contact with a supporting agency, with nearly one third of those being children under the age of 18.

Agencies participating in the supporting programs thank the Boone County Board of Supervisors, and all partnering agencies for encouraging citizens to recognize that many people do not have safe housing and/or adequate resources for food and need support from their communities.

Left to Right, Phil Meier, Boone County Auditor, Bill Zinnel, Chad Behn and Steve Duffy, Boone County Supervisors, Tina Palmer, YSS Boone County, Amber Ahrens, IMPACT and Diane Hinderacker, Boone County Probation.
