The Madrid softball team earned a much-needed victory Saturday, June 7, at their home tournament.
The Tigers defeated Colfax-Mingo, 4-2, behind a balanced offensive effort and a dominant pitching performance from Mayzie Surratt.
Madrid struck early, scoring in each of the first three innings to build a 4-0 lead.
Samantha Springer and Rylee Borcheding each had a hit, scored a run, and drove in one.
Hailey Renslow added an RBI, while Savannah Bradley, Tilly Sweet, and Surratt each contributed a hit.
Surratt went the distance with a complete game and racked up 10 strikeouts to secure the win.
Colfax-Mingo managed to score one run in the fourth and another in the sixth but couldn’t overcome Madrid’s early surge.
The win improved Madrid’s record to 2-7, while Colfax-Mingo dropped to 0-7.
The Tigers travel to Ogden (6-4) for a West Central Conference matchup at 7 p.m. tonight.
