Despite a late rally, the Madrid baseball team came up just short Saturday, June 7, falling 9-6 to Estherville Lincoln Central in Madrid’s home tournament.
Madrid trailed early as Estherville Lincoln Central built a 6-1 lead through five innings.
The Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one, but Estherville Lincoln Central added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to seal the win.
McCoy Cooley led the Tigers offensively with three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
Easton Halverson added two hits, while Kole Deppe and Kolbie Owens each contributed an RBI.
Preston Wicker took the loss on the mound, striking out two in the effort.
The loss dropped Madrid to 3-5 on the season, while Estherville Lincoln Central improved to 6-6.
Madrid will look to bounce back tonight in a West Central Conference showdown at Ogden (3-10).
First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and fans can catch the action live on KWBG AM 1590 and FM 101.5 with sports director Ryan Wendt on the call.
