BOONE, Iowa—Flashing red lights will be staying on Story Street downtown, but there will be a different look. The Council’s Public Safety and Transportation Committee recommended going ahead with the plan submitted by Waylon Andrews the Public Works Director. Andrews suggested going to single flashing red lights and extending the area to include the singles at 11th and Story. Andrews said current traffic guidelines make it difficult to include Stop Signs and he felt the single flashing red lights would still be the best option. His proposal also called for keeping the current poles but removing the three colored heads and retaining those for parts. The change would cost about $20,000 and another $1,000 to $2,000 for signage.

The proposal accepted by the City Council this week.
