The Boone boys’ tennis team capped off a strong season with a trip to the Class 1A State Team Tennis Meet Tuesday, June 3, at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center in Iowa City.
The Toreadors fell to top-seeded Cedar Rapids Xavier in the quarterfinals, 5-0.
Boone seniors Devin Silbaugh, Tyler Lindahl and Wes Van Pelt each battled in their singles matches.
Silbaugh dropped his match 1-6, 0-6 to Charlie LeGrand, while Lindahl fell 0-6, 0-6 to Jacob Schmit.
Van Pelt managed to take a game in each set but ultimately lost, 1-6, 1-6, to Bennett Link.
Junior Braxtan Sproule and sophomores Calvin Jordan and Patrick Houser also competed hard.
Jordan’s match was competitive, but it was marked as “did not finish” with the score at 0-6, 2-4.
Houser picked up two games in his match before falling 2-6, 0-6.
Due to Xavier clinching the team victory in singles, the doubles matches were not played.

The No. 2 team of Sproule and Houser also qualified for state, finishing the season 7-3.
Sproule also teamed with Schneider for a 4-1 record earlier in the season at No. 2 doubles, while Van Pelt and Jordan were 12-2 at No. 3 doubles.
