The Madrid baseball team roared back from an early deficit to defeat Glidden-Ralston 12-5, Friday, May 30 in Madrid.
Glidden-Ralston jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, putting pressure on the Tigers early.
But Madrid responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead and never looked back.
Madrid’s offense was led by Easton Halverson, who had three hits, three runs scored, an RBI, a double, and two stolen bases.
Eli Peterson drove in five runs on two hits to help break the game open.
McCoy Cooley added two hits and scored twice, while Preston Wicker contributed with two RBIs and crossed the plate three times.
The Tigers added four more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to seal the win.
On the mound, Conner Pettiecord earned the victory, striking out four batters.
With the win, Madrid improves to 2-2 on the season, matching Glidden-Ralston’s record.
Glidden-Ralston shuts out Madrid softball
The Madrid softball team struggled to find its rhythm Friday, May 30, as it fell to Glidden-Ralston 11-0 in a tough home loss.
Glidden-Ralston got on the board early with a run in the top of the first inning and steadily built their lead with three more in the third and a combined five runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Madrid’s lone hit came from Tilly Sweet, while Mayzie Surratt battled in the circle, recording five strikeouts despite the loss.
With the win, Glidden-Ralston improves to 2-0 on the season, while Madrid drops to 1-4.
The baseball and softball teams are set to host Panorama (2-3) tonight at 7 p.m., weather permitting.
