The Madrid softball team powered past Coon Rapids-Bayard, 18-7, in a six-inning road victory Wednesday, May 28, in Coon Rapids.
Madrid wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.
The Tigers added to their lead with runs in every inning except the second, including a six-run outburst in the sixth that sealed the game.
Kiera Alt led the charge with a hit, two RBIs, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Ashlyn Burkhart added two RBIs of her own, while Mayzie Surratt and Tilly Sweet each drove in a run.
Samantha Springer crossed the plate four times, and Rylee Borcherding added three runs of her own.
Surratt, Savannah Bradley, Borcherding, and Burkhart each contributed a hit.
Surratt also pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters to earn the win.
The win evens Madrid’s record at 1-1 on the young season, while Coon Rapids-Bayard drops to 0-1.
Madrid now turns its attention to a road doubleheader at Earlham tonight, with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m.
