The Boone boys’ tennis team made a strong showing at the 2025 State Individual Tennis Tournament Tuesday, May 27, in Waterloo, with two doubles teams finishing among the top 12 in the state.

Seniors Devin Silbaugh and Tyler Lindahl entered the tournament with a 21-7 season record.

They had a tough opening match against a Sergeant Bluff-Luton team, where they fell 3-6, 1-6.

Silbaugh and Lindahl bounced back in their second match, edging out a Dubuque Wahlert team in a thrilling 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) victory.

Their final match against Ballard went to third-set tiebreaker.

After splitting the first two sets 5-7, 6-3, Silbaugh and Lindahl narrowly lost the tiebreak 9-11, and secured a 9th-12th place finish.

Junior Braxtan Sproule and sophomore Patrick Houser also had a challenging start against the other Sergeant Bluff-Luton team (1-6, 1-6).

They rallied in their second match to defeat Grinnell 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).

Their final match against Decorah ended in a 3-6, 1-6 loss, but Sproule and Houser’s performance earned them a 9th-12th place finish and a season record of 10-6.

Boone will compete as a team at Class 1A state team tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3 and 4, at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center in Iowa City.
