The Boone baseball team outlasted Des Moines Christian, 14-13, in 9 innings Tuesday, May 20, in Grimes.
The Toreadors overcame an early 5-0 deficit, erupting for 12 runs across the fourth and fifth innings.
Des Moines Christian scored in six different innings, including a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Boone’s two-run rally in the top of the ninth proved decisive.
Dylan England led the offensive charge, going 3-for-5 at the plate and driving in 3 runs.
Lucas Moore and Tyler Lindahl each added 2 RBIs to fuel Boone’s comeback.
Boone’s biggest innings came in the fourth and fifth, where they scored six runs in each inning to erase Des Moines Christian’s early lead.
Reid Carr earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 innings while Drew Hayworth was dominant out of the bullpen, striking out five batters over four innings.
With the win, Boone starts the season 1-0, while Des Moines Christian drops to 0-1.
Boone travels to Norwalk Thursday, May 22, to face the Warriors (0-0) in another early-season test.
