The Madrid girls’ track team claimed six individual event titles at Pleasantville Monday, May 12, showcasing their depth across sprints, distance, and field events.
Paige Richards sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12.55 seconds.
Katelyn Brandhorst finished the 800-meter run with a winning time of 2:24.16.
In the longer distances, Hannah Brandhorst took first in the 1,500-meter run at 5:02.59.
The Grothus sisters led a 1-2 finish in the 3,000-meter run, with Madelyn winning in 12:02.76 and Mila following in 12:57.13.
In the field events, Lauren Dvorak was swept both the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 7.5 inches, and the discus with a mark of 113 feet, 1 inch.
Madrid finished second overall with 127.5 points, behind Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, who took the team title with 144 points.
The Tigers are preparing for the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet, which they will host on Thursday, May 15. The meet will feature Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, Ackley-Geneva/Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock, Ankeny Christian, Audubon, Cumberland-Anita-Massena, Colo-Nesco, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Empigo Academy, Glidden-Ralston, Madrid Nodaway Valley, Paton-Churdan, South Hamilton, West Fork, Woodward Academy.
The Iowa High School Track & Field Championships will be Thursday, May 22, through Saturday, May 24, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
