BOONE, Iowa—Boone High School student Kyler Griffis has been named a Commended Student in
the 2024 National Merit® Scholarship Program.
Approximately 34,000 Commended Students have garnered recognition from the National Merit
Scholarship Program for their exceptional academic potential. While they will not proceed to
compete for the National Merit Scholarship Awards, these Commended Students are among the
top 50,000 participants who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary
SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“We are immensely proud of Kyler for his exceptional achievements,” said Julie Trepa, BCSD
Superintendent. “Earning the title of a Commended Student in the extremely competitive National
Merit Scholarship Program is a significant accomplishment, and we are honored to congratulate
him on his outstanding work and achievements.”
Griffis will be presented with an official letter of commendation from Principal Jon Johnson on
behalf of Boone High School and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the
scholarship program.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is a nonprofit organization established in 1955
specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are
underwritten by the NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 320 business organizations
and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic
champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
