BOONE, Iowa–Funeral arrangements have been set for Jerad Alan Hale, age 36 of Luther. He passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at his home.
Born on April 5, 1985, the son of Ronald and Janene (Barrett) Hale in Boone. Jerad enlisted in the Army in March of 2009, serving in Afghanistan and being stationed in Bamberg, Germany for 3 years and 8 months of his 4-year term of service. Jerad earned the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Global War Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Medal and 2nd award of Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and Combat Action Badge. Jerad was honorably discharged in August of 2013. He was immensely proud of his military brothers in the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
Jerad was united in marriage with Cassandra “Cassi” Reed on August 23, 2010 in Springfield, MO, the couple renewed their vows in Ames, IA nearly 6 years ago. Jerad was a kindhearted family man, loving children even if they were not his blood and impacting many hearts throughout his life.
Jerad was a member at First Christian Church in Ames. He enjoyed playing video games and cranking the stereo in his earlier years with Brad Taylor of Luther by his side, his best friend of 33 years (they considered each other brothers). Jerad was intrigued by drag racing, he always wanting to take his Mustang for a run going to see Brad race. He loved tinkering with cars (especially his truck), fixing anything that was broken, remodeling his home and working in the yard. Jerad took his family fishing and camping, sharing many memories while grilling and sitting around bonfires.
Jerad was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marilyn Barrett Smiley. He is survived by his wife, Cassi; parents, Ron (Carla) Hale of Luther and Janene Hale of Oklahoma; children, Kymberli Marcomb, Maleigha Hale, Madox Kilgore – Reed, Kaiden Hale and Makaylynn “Mikki” Hale; along with bonus kids, he helped raise and loved as his own, Kaylee Stone, Taylor Dalton and Braxton; sister, Jessi Foster of Nevada; grandparents, Jerry (Sandy) Barrett and Ron Smiley; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jerad was cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Carl Fritz Henning Shelter at Ledges State Park beginning at 12:00 P.M. Military Honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council at 1:00 P.M., followed by a Celebration of Life Service officiated by Rev. Mary Jane Button-Harrison of First Christian Church in Ames.
