Gary McCool

BOONE, Iowa—Gary James McCool, 81, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Monday,
October 17, 2022. He was born on June 25, 1941, the son of Charlotte and Leonard McCool.

On August 16, 1961, Gary married Karen Newland at the First Baptist Church in Boone. He graduated from Boone High School and then attended DMACC for one year. Gary worked for various telephone companies as an engineer before retiring. He then worked for Boone County transportation until retiring from that position.

Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boone and served in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed making model railroads, creating woodworking projects (plaques and statues), and loved to read and watch John Wayne movies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Leonard McCool.

Gary is survived by his wife, Karen McCool; son, Jim McCool (Karen Green); daughters, Mary Bruscher and Patti Miller; grandchildren: Austin McCool, Tony Miller, Joshua Miller, Cody Miller, Derik Miller, Brandon Bruscher, and Caitlynn Bruscher; great-grandchildren: Alexis Browning, Aiden Miller, Serenity Miller, and Vinny Miller; step-grandson, Keaton Green; his brother Dennis (Mary Jane) McCool; and nephews: Michael McCool and Christopher McCool and their children.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Boone, with Reverend Janell Bloem officiating. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be prior to the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Interment with Military Honors will be at Squire Boone Cemetery following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Boone.
