DMACC and Van Wall Equipment Launch New Power Equipment Tech Program

Posted on 02 February 2021 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—DMACC and Van Wall Equipment have formed a new partnership to provide education, on-the-job training and work placement for Iowans.  The Power Equipment Technician program will originate on DMACC’s Boone Campus, with much of the technical training occurring in Van Wall’s CITECenter training facility, adjacent to the Agriculture EXPO Center in Boone.  Upon successful completion, a student will graduate with an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree.

The program will prepare students to be technically competent in the areas of electric, hydraulics, powertrains on gasoline and diesel equipment including residential, powersports, as well as commercial and light construction equipment. Hands-on training will be emphasized both in the classroom and in work-based training (apprenticeships) in our dealerships and service facilities in central Iowa. Students will also complete academic courses that develop skills needed to work collaboratively.

Van Wall Equipment will be providing full-tuition scholarships for students who are accepted into the program.  “We are excited to offer this limited availability program that is also supported by successful employment upon graduation”, said Don Van Houweling, President of Van Wall Equipment.

Dr. Drew Nelson, Provost of DMACC’s Boone campus, was thrilled when Van Wall approached DMACC’s administration with concepts for a work-readiness program in Boone; “The Power Equipment Technical program will join Civil Engineering Technology and Nursing, providing a pathway to in-demand, local jobs.”
