BOSTON (AP) – Tuukka (TOO’-kah) Rask stopped 35 shots and Johnny Boynton snapped a 2-2 tie in the second period as the Boston Bruins beat the New York Rangers 5-2 to take a two-games-to-none lead in the NHL’s Eastern Conference semifinals. Torey Krug (kroog) had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who used a two-goal third period to take control. Rangers forward Rick Nash finally scored his first goal of the postseason after leading the team with 21 during the regular season.

OTTAWA (AP) – The Penguins have a 2-1 lead in the NHL’s Eastern Conference semifinals after goals by Daniel Alfredsson and Colin Greening allowed the Ottawa Senators to beat Pittsburgh 2-1 in double overtime. Greening scored at 7:39 of the second OT after Alfredsson provided a short-handed goal with just 29 seconds left in regulation. Craig Anderson stopped 49 shots and blanked the Pens after Tyler Kennedy scored late in the second period.

IRVING, Texas (AP) – Sang-Moon Bae has won the Byron Nelson Championship for his first PGA Tour title. The 26-year-old South Korean closed with a 1-under 69 to finish at 13-under. Keegan Bradley blew a four-stroke lead in the final round and finished two shots off the pace, three days after setting a course record with a 10-under 60.

ROME (AP) – Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL’) and Serena Williams are leaving Rome as the 2013 winners of the Italian Open, the last event before the start of the French Open. Nadal defeated long-time foe Roger Federer in the final, 6-1, 6-3, while Williams stopped Victoria Azarenka (ah-zah-REN’-kuh) 6-1, 6-3.

UNDATED (AP) – Brad Marchand’s goal at 15:40 of overtime allowed the Boston Bruins to beat the New York Rangers 3-2 in Game 1 of the NHL’s Eastern Conference semifinals. Dustin Brown and Trevor Lewis scored power-play goals 22 seconds apart over the final 1:43 as the Los Angeles Kings rallied to beat San Jose 4-3 and take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinals.

UNDATED (AP) -The Sacramento Kings are another step closer to staying put. A person familiar with the deal tells the Associated Press the Maloof family has reached an agreement with a Sacramento group headed by software tycoon Vivek Ranadive. The Maloofs would sell a 65 percent controlling interest in the Kings at a total franchise valuation of $535 million.

IRVING, Texas (AP) – Keegan Bradley is the leader through one round of the PGA’s Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas. Bradley set a course record with a 10-under-60 for a three shot lead over Charl Schwartzel. Bradley’s round featured 10 birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.

LONDON (AP) – Veteran soccer player David Beckham says he will retire from professional the end of the season. The 38-year-old Englishman recently won a league title in a fourth country with a team in Paris and has two games left this season with the French club. He also played for Manchester United, Real Madrid (ray-AL’ mah-DRIHD’) and the Los Angeles Galaxy, winning titles with all three clubs.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)- The Memphis Grizzlies are going to the Western Conference finals for the first time in franchise history after eliminating Oklahoma City in five games, 88-84. Zach Randolph posted his fourth double-double of the five-game series with 28 points and 14 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who will play either San Antonio or Golden State in the conference finals.

SEATTLE (AP)- Seattle fans’ hopes to land an NBA franchise were dashed yesterday with NBA owners voting 22-8 against the Sacramento Kings’ proposed move to the Pacific Northwest. Seattle has been without an NBA team since 2008 when the Sonics moved to Oklahoma City and rechristened the Thunder.

BALTIMORE (AP)- Nine horses, the smallest Preakness field in six years, will run a mile and three-16ths on Saturday as Orb tries to win the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown. Orb drew the rail and was installed as the even-money favorite for the Preakness Stakes.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti (DA’-ree-oh fran-KEE’-tee) topped the speed chart yesterday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, turning a lap at an average of 224.236 mph in the fifth practice session for the May 26 race. Franchitti, the Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver who will be 40 on Sunday, is trying to match the Indy 500 record of four victories held by A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr. and Rick Mears.

INDIANPOLIS (AP)- The Indiana Pacers are one victory away from reaching the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2004. George Hill’s 26 points led the Pacers to a 93-82 win and a 3-1 series lead over the New York Knicks, who return home for Game 5 Thursday night.

NEW YORK (AP) – Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH’) hit a two-run double, Lyle Overbay delivered a tiebreaking sacrifice fly and the New York Yankees rallied after Felix Hernandez left and beat the Seattle Mariners 4-3. Hernandez tweaked his back and exited after six innings with a 3-1 lead, having outpitching CC Sabathia in the first matchup between the former Cy Young winners.

UNDATED (AP)- Pittsburgh and defending Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings both won their opening games in their conference semifinal series last night. The Penguins routed Ottawa 4-1 while the Kings blanked San Jose 2-0 as Jonathan Quick recorded the shutout.

SAN DIEGO (AP) – San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Melvin Ingram has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, putting his season in jeopardy. The Chargers announced that Ingram was hurt yesterday during an organized team activity practice.

UNDATED (AP) – The Boston Bruins will take on the New York Rangers in the NHL’s Eastern Conference semifinals after both teams won Game 7s last night. The Bruins fell behind 4-1 before Patrice Bergeron (pah-TREES’ BEHR-zhur-ahn) provided the tying and series-winning goals in Boston’s 5-4 overtime win against Toronto. Henrik Lundqvist turned back 35 shots in his second consecutive shutout to lead the Rangers’ 5-0 win over the Capitals in Washington.

CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Cubs have worked out a seven-year, $41 million contract with 23-year-old first baseman Anthony Rizzo, a deal that could be worth up to $68 million over nine seasons. Rizzo is hitting .280 with a .352 on-base percentage, nine homers and 28 RBIs in his third major league seasons.

DETROIT (AP) – The Houston Astros finished last night’s 7-2 loss in Detroit without their best starting pitcher and top hitter. Right-hander Bud Norris left his start with back spasms after five innings and 71 pitches. The Astros also lost standout second baseman Jose Altuve (al-TOO’-vay) to a jaw injury earlier in the game.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – Buddy Nix has stepped down as general manager of the Buffalo Bills and will move into a newly created role as a special assistant. The 73-year-old Nix steps down two weeks after overseeing his fourth draft with the Bills, which the team opened by selecting its quarterback of the future in Florida State’s EJ Manuel with the 16th pick. Doug Whaley is expected to replace Nix after three seasons as assistant GM.

CHICAGO (AP) – The NBA has fined Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau (THIH’-buh-doh) $35,000 for comments he made about the officiating following Friday’s loss to the Miami Heat in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Thibodeau was upset that Nazr Mohammed got ejected for shoving LeBron James to the floor and accused the Heat’s superstar of flopping. He also said calls weren’t going to go the Bulls’ way.

UNDATED (AP) – The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers have forced Game 7s in their respective Eastern Conference quarterfinals series. James Reimer stopped 29 shots and carried a shutout into the final minute of the Leafs’ 2-1 win over Boston after HenrikLundqvist made 27 saves in the Rangers’ 1-0 shutout of Washington. Detroit moved into the Western Conference semifinals as Henrik Zetterberg and Valteri Filppula (val-TEHR’-ee FIHL’-puh-luh) each notched a goal and an assist in the Red Wings’ 3-2 win over Anaheim in Game 7.

HOUSTON (AP) – The Houston Astros have designated Philip Humber for assignment, one year after tossing the 21st perfect game in major league history. Humber is 0-8 with a 9.59 after surrendering five runs in just 2/3s of an inning against Texas on Saturday.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Tiger Woods closed with a 2-under-par 70 to win The Players Championship at 13-under, two strokes ahead of Kevin Streelman, Swedish rookie David Lingmerth and Jeff Maggert. Woods was in the scoring trailer when Lingmerth missed a long birdie try that would have forced a playoff. Woods now has 78 career PGA victories after claiming his first Players Championship title in a dozen years.

PHOENIX (AP) – The Phoenix Suns have hired Ryan McDonough as their new general manager. He replaces Lance Blanks, who was fired on April 22 after failing to make the playoffs the past three seasons. McDonough spent 10 years in the Boston Celtics organization, the last three as assistant GM.

UNDATED (AP) – The San Jose Sharks are the first NHL to reach the conference semifinals after beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in overtime. Patrick Marleau’s power-play goal at 13:18 of the extra session gave the Sharks a four-game sweep. Also on ice, the New York Islanders beat Pittsburgh 6-4 to even that series 2-2, Ottawa has a 3-1 series lead following a 3-2 overtime win against Montreal, and Chicago blanked Minnesota 3-0 to go up 3-1 in that series.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – The Buffalo Sabres have hired Ron Rolston as head coach on a permanent basis. Rolston led the Sabres to a 15-11-5 mark after replacing Lindy Ruff in February.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – The Jacksonville Jaguars continued to revamp their secondary by signing free agent cornerback Marcus Trufant. The team released veteran cornerback Antwaun Molden to make room for the former Seattle Seahawks starter.

Halladay is 2-4 with an 8.65 ERA in seven starts this season after allowing nine runs in 2 1/3 innings against Miami on Sunday. Halladay will be replaced on the roster by left-hander Joe Savery.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Chicago White Sox starter Gavin Floyd needs elbow surgery and will miss the rest of the season. The 30-year-old was 0-4 with a 5.18 ERA in five starts for Chicago this season before going on the disabled list April 28.

NEW YORK (AP) – P.J. Carlesimo (kar-LEHS’-eh-mo) has been dismissed as interim coach of the Brooklyn Nets, hours after the team was eliminated by the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Carlesimo guided the Nets to a 35-19 record and a No. 4 seed in the conference playoffs after replacing Avery Johnson in December.

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) – David Ragan (RAY’-gan) used a sweeping last-lap pass in overtime to pull off a huge upset victory at Talladega Superspeedway. He got a push from teammate David Gilliland to surge past Carl Edwards to the front. Ragan and Gilliland held on for a 1-2 finish for Front Row Motorsports.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Rookie Derek Ernst parred the first playoff hole to defeat David Lynn and win the PGA’s Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte. Both players closed with 2-under 70s for an 8-under total. Phil Mickelson shared the lead heading into the round before shooting a 73, leaving him one shot back.

CHICAGO (AP)- The Nets-Bulls series is going to a seventh game Saturday in Brooklyn. Deron (DEHR’-ihn) Williams, Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson each scored 17 points, and the Nets again avoided elimination with a 95-92 victory that sets up a game 7 Saturday in Brooklyn.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) – Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson has agreed to help the Detroit Pistons search for a head coach as an advisor. The Pistons fired Lawrence Frank after a 29-53 season and 54-94 mark in his two seasons.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)- The seventh-seeded Detroit Red Wings are going home tied 1-1 with the Anaheim Ducks. The Red Wings lost a 4-1 lead in the final period but recovered to beat the Ducks 5-4 in overtime on Gustav Nyquist’s power-play goal at 1:21 of OT.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -Rory McIlroy starts the day in a seven-way tie for first place as second round play begins at the Wells Fargo Championship. McIlroy is tied with Ryan Moore, Robert Garrigus (GEHR’-ih-guhs), Nick Watney, Daniel Summerhays, Nate Smith and Derek Ernst as some 37 golfers are within three shots of the lead.
