Posted on 13 November 2017 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—A Boone man has received a 15-year prison sentence after pleading guilty in two different Burglary cases.  The Boone County Attorney’s office has released sentencing information.

A District Court Judge in Boone County sentenced Brady Ray Claman, age 22, from Boone, Iowa, to fifteen (15) years in prison with the Iowa Department of Corrections.  The sentencing was a result of two guilty pleas by Brady Claman to Theft in the 1st Degree and Burglary in the Third Degree in two different cases.  Theft in the 1st Degree is a Class-C Felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and Burglary in the 3rd Degree is a Class D Felony which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison.

According to the complaint and affidavit the Boone Sheriff’s Office investigated a theft that occurred out in the county in August of 2016.  Deputies responded to a residence for a report of a theft.  The victims of the theft had surveillance video of the suspects of the theft.  Several items were stolen including handguns, Ipads, and a drone.  Total value of the theft was over $10,000.  Several witnesses who viewed the video identified Brady Claman in the video committing the theft.  Brady Claman’s second case occurred on or around July 2017.  In this case the Boone Police Department investigated a burglary occurring at a home in the city of Boone.  In this case according to the complaint and affidavit and the factual basis at Brady Claman’s plea hearing, Brady Claman with a couple of friends entered a house.  They received the key to the house from a friend who got a key to watch the house for the people who owned but were out of town.  Mr. Claman did not have permission to enter the house or take items.  They subsequently took items from the house in multiple trips taking the victims’ televisions, laptop, safe, jewelry, urn, and other valuables.

On November 13, 2017, Brady Claman pled guilty to Burglary in the Third degree for the July break-in.  He pled guilty to Theft in the First Degree for the earlier break in to another residence months earlier.

A sentencing hearing was held for his Boone County cases on November 13, 2017.  This hearing before the District Court, the State, represented by the Boone County Attorney’s Office, argued that Brady Claman should served both cases consecutively and with the Iowa Department of Corrections for fifteen (15) years.  The Office pointed to the continuing criminal conduct, Brady Claman’s poor performance prior to the sentencing, and the need for the community to be protected from these crimes.  The defense argued for probation.  The District Court sentenced Brady Claman to ten years in prison for his Theft in the First Degree and five years in prison for his Burglary in the Third Degree.  Both cases are to run consecutive to each other for a total of fifteen (15) years in prison.

According to court records Brady Claman has another conviction in Hardin County for Attempted Burglary in the Third Degree on August 17, 2017.  In that case he received probation.
