Stines Seeks 3rd Ward Council Seat

Posted on 15 September 2017 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Elijah Stines is officially seeking a seat on the Boone City Council.  In a written release, Stines says “I am very excited to announce that I will be seeking election to the Boone City Council as a representative for Ward 3. The election will take place on November 7th, 2017 and the polling location for Ward 3 is the Evangelical Free Church at 1407 Kate Shelley Drive.”

He also said, “The past few weeks I have been walking around the ward, talking to neighbors and asking them for their comments and concerns for the city, and what they would like to see Council focus on in the coming years. I very much look forward to speaking with as many people as I can, listening to their stories, ideas, and criticisms, because we all have a huge stake in the future of Boone, and I want to make sure all residents have the opportunity to be heard.”

The reason I am seeking this position is because I am lucky enough to be the father of two wonderful girls who are just entering school. When I moved to the area to complete my Ph.D. in mathematics at Iowa State University, my wife Katie, and I, moved to Boone after she was hired at the Boone News Republican. Immediately we knew that this was the place to raise our family. We both came from small towns, much smaller than Boone. We wanted our kids to have the good fortune to live in a town which was small enough to walk to wherever we needed to go, but large enough to afford them the tremendous opportunity to engage in any number of activities, attend community college, and receive a high quality education.

Unfortunately, rural communities are under a tremendous amount of pressure demographically and economically which can put their future in peril. I believe that it is very important to have a wide variety of viewpoints and experiences at the table to look out for potential dangers and opportunities. I hope that I can be a new set of eyes, ears, and a new voice on the City Council who can ensure that Boone is the home for families that I know it has the potential to be.

I look forward to working towards the best future possible for our city and welcome anyone to contact me in any of the following ways:
