BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council created a Community Dedication Award in 2012 to recognize individuals or groups whose advocacy for the community has fulfilled a goal of advancing the growth of the city of Boone.  Nominations are received by the City Clerk between May 1st and June 30th of each year.  The City Council and Mayor will then vote for a winner.  The winner is then recognized during the Pufferbilly Days™ opening ceremonies.  This year, Boone Mayor John Slight announced that there was a tie and two awards were being presented.  One to John Dawkins and one to Don Batt.

During the presentation, Slight said Dawkins was recognized for his community service in support of the Salvation Army, Sacred Heart Church and School and the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad.  Slight said Batt has been instrumental in the success of the Boone County Freedom Flight and the District 25 Chapter of ABATE.
