One Still In, One Bows Out

In high school baseball this weekend, Boone took one step closer to the state tournament by beating Perry, 3 – 2, Friday night in Alleman.  Shortstop Tanner Schminke walked in the second inning and eventually stole home to score the Toreadors first run.  In the fifth, Tanner was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game, then came across home plate on a Bluejays’ error for the winning run.  Dresden Wilson struck out eight Perry players in the complete game victory giving Boone an overall record of 20 – 10.  The Toreadors now travel to number 10 North Polk for the Class-3A District Final.  Sports director Ryan Wendt will have the call around 7:00 Monday evening on AM 1590 and kwbg.com.

However, Madrid’s season came to an end Saturday night in a Class 1-A District Final at Martensdale Saint Mary’s as the 3rd-ranked Blue Devils blanked the Tigers, 7 – 0.  Madrid third baseman Eli Greufe and left fielder Bradin Gibbons both had two hits – a double and single each – but the Tigers finish at the five hundred mark, 15 – 15.
