BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Police Department reported taking a male juvenile into custody last Thursday morning, after responding to a call about a suspicious subject going through vehicles parked in the 1500 Block of 12th Street. Commander John Sloter released additional information Monday afternoon. He noted that the call came into the Law Enforcement Communications Center at 7:16 AM. According to the release, Officers responded and arrived around 7:21 a.m. and located the subject. When officers attempted to make contact, the subject fled the area on foot and officers gave chase. The subject was captured and taken into custody in the West alley in the 1200 block of Meridian Street. One officer was injured during the foot chase and suffered a broken wrist and fractured thumb.
In addition to removing property from four vehicles in this area, the investigation revealed that the suspect had committed two garage burglaries also. The first was in the 2000 block of Marshall Street and the second in the 2000 block of Story Street.
The suspect was identified as a juvenile male, age 16 from Boone. He was charged with:
1. 3rd Degree Burglary (5 counts)
2. Interference With Official Acts Causing Serious Injury
He was lodged at the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center.
Sloter noted that the identities of juveniles are not released in accordance with state law and an arrest or the filing of charges is not an indication of guilt.
