Council Moves Forward With Benton Street Project

Posted on 07 February 2017 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council approved moving ahead with the planned Benton Street reconstruction project during their meeting Monday.  City Engineer Wayne Schwartz told the council the project will be bid through the Iowa Department of Transportation on February 21st.  He said he will have a recommendation for Council consideration during their meeting that will be held March 6th.  An announcement from Boone Public Works Tuesday noted that Benton Street will be closed to traffic between Mamie Eisenhower and 8th Street this spring and is expected to be closed into the fall season.  During that time there will be not vehicle access to the properties along Benton Street.  Schwartz noted that residents have been notified of the project repeatedly since last summer.

The city has not had very good luck on street reconstruction projects getting done in a timely fashion the past couple of years.  South Marshall Street took much longer than expected and so did the Crawford Street project last summer.  The project will include a detour making use of Marshall Street.
