During a West Central Activities Conference Athletic Director’s meeting on Wednesday February 1st, Pleasantville and Interstate 35 schools were both accepted into the West Central Activities Conference starting with the 2018/2019 School Year. There was discussion about how both schools would be involved in the conference and a few ideas were thrown around.

1) Volleyball
  • We will play a 10-date round robin schedule — all 9th/JV/V formats
  • No conference tournament
  • Leaves 4 open dates for non-conference and/or tournaments
2) Basketball
  • Two Divisions
    • A) AC/GC, Madrid, Ogden, Panorama, West Central Valley, Woodward Granger
    • B) Des Moines Christian, Earlham, Interstate-35, Pleasantville, Van Meter, Woodward Academy
  • Will play home/home with each team in your division
  • Will play each team from opposite division 1 time, rotating host site each year
  • Girls will have 15 conference, 6 non-conference games
  • Boys will have 16 conference, 5 non-conference games
3) Wrestling
  • Conference tournament changes from dual format to individual tournament
4) Baseball / softball
  • Discussed notes submitted by conference baseball coaches. Will address baseball / softball at future meeting

Ogden Activities Director Ben Van Wyk said this about the new schools coming in. “They’re both great additions for the WCAC. It made sense because of their enrollment size as well as the various activities they offer, both in athletics and in fine arts. Their additions will make our conference stronger in many facets”

Van Meter and DMC should join Raccoon River conference that Perry and Boone are in. They would have much tougher competition.
