BOONE, Iowa—A Thursday night house fire at the home of Melinda Burdess caused extensive damage and displaced Burdess and her son. The Boone County Communications Center was notified shortly before 9:00 PM about the fire. Fire Fighters were on the scene for more than three hours containing the blaze in low, single digit temperatures with windchill of 10-to-15 below. An investigation early Friday did not reveal any apparent cause for the fire. Officials reported that the family cat did not survive.
Family members of Melinda Burdess have established a donation account in Melinda’s name at Members 1st Community Credit Union in Boone.
The Boone Fire Department received assistance from multiple agencies including the Boone Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Boone County Emergency Management, Boone County Search and Rescue, Boone County Hospital Ambulance Service and the Salvation Army.
