BOONE, Iowa—The Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad announced today that Travis Stevenson was hired as the new General Manager. Travis formerly held the position of Chief Mechanical Officer since 2005. Prior to that, he served as a mechanic at the railroad.
Stevenson holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University and has been involved in many activities in Boone. He served on past steering committees for the annual Pufferbilly Days™ Celebration from 2008 to 2011, has been a member of the Boone Chamber of Commerce, was the chairperson of the Boone Area Convention and Visitors Committee from 2010 to 2015. Stevenson also volunteers as a paid on-call fire fighter for the City of Boone. He also served on the Boone City Council from 2005 to 2009 as an at-large council member and prior to the served on the Boone Park Commission 2001 to 2005.
Stevenson worked closely with his father, Fenner Stevenson, who served as Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad General Manager from 1996 until 2015. He has also worked with the Federal Railroad Administration and Transportation Safety Administration in making sure the railroad conducts a safe operation and in making sure all personnel in train service are trained and certified.
Travis has also been involved in fund raising and other projects over the years and has served many hours in the preparation and operation of Day Out with Thomas™, which is already scheduled for two weekends in September.
Stevenson will transition to the General Manager position over the next several months and will begin the search for a replacement for the Chief Mechanical Officer’s position.
