At the 107th Boone County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting was held Tuesday at the Fareway Education Center in Boone.    Special guest Congressman Steve King addressed the assembled group.  His concerns for the current session include protecting and keeping focus on agriculture.  He puts forth that oil will be coming after renewable fuels and Iowa needs to be ready for it.  King is also chiring a task force designed to restore Article I authority to Congress.  He says that his committee will work on addressing what he calls “Executive over-reach” by developing a road map to bring the power of Congress back to “we, the people.”

Jon Crook, the 2015 president recognizes outgoing directors for the Chamber Lindsay Stolte and Reynolds Cramer.    Crook also spoke about the Chamber finally becoming the owners of the building at 903 Story Street, which has housed the Chamber for a number of years.

After receiving the gavel from Crook, incoming president Jeff Gano announced the 2016 Awards and Honors.  What was previously known as the Volunteer of the Year Award has been re-christened the Fenner H Stevenson Volunteer of the Year award.  The first recipient of this award was Kenny Gute of Spring Green.  Gute has long been involved with the Chamber’s annual Home Show.  The entrepreneur of the year award was presented to Matt and Shannon Halsrub of Central Iowa Impact.  And the Business/Industry of the Year award was presented to Pat DeMouth and Terry Goodman of PDM.
