BOONE, Iowa—Boone will once again spray for mosquitoes Thursday evening. Public Works Directors John Rouse did begin the spraying program in late spring after some early rains and warmer weather. Spraying expanded to twice a week, Tuesday evenings and Thursday evenings throughout June and July and is expected to continue. Rouse has also said that Public Works has applied treatment to standing water areas to control the mosquito population.
Public works sprays around dusk, weather permitting. Rouse said that mosquitoes are more active at that time and the spray that’s used is effective on contact with active mosquitoes. Rouse said that homeowners can help control mosquitoes by making sure they don’t have standing water around their homes. Things like bird baths or watering cans should have water changed regularly.
Public works is expected to continue the spraying for the next several weeks.
